Twins? No, cousins who like to have a little fun at CCE! These ladies bring lots of joy to our PK kiddos, and often are mistaken for one another. I wonder why!?

Our 6th graders had the chance to dig deeper into science during an extension of Talent Development in March, April, and May. Topics of study included multicellular organisms, plant vs. animal cells, DNA extraction, Iowa's fossil record and electromagnetic energy. Science rocks!

We are so happy for our wonderful 1st grade teacher!!! She has been a teacher for 37 years!! We love you, Mrs. Rutt!!!

Mrs. Toft handed out her end of the year “excellence in music” awards to the preschoolers today! The preschoolers were honored for being such wonderful listeners, putting on such excellent performances at the winter and spring concerts, and for being such fantastic Maverick music students! Great job, preschoolers!

The CCE Kindergarteners went to Prairie Heritage Center in Peterson yesterday to learn about Prairie animals from past and present! They explored the trail on the glacial marine and found caves to experience. They played in the underground to find things to create, played a seek and find game, and touched a fox snake! So cool! Thank you to Lindsey and Ian for sharing with our Kindergarteners! They had a great day!

Today was Lakeside Lab day and it was SO much fun! We had the perfect day exploring the beautiful Lakeside grounds and learning so much while having loads of fun! From bird banding to pond dipping, fish print painting to hiking, canoeing and more, we had the absolute best day! Thank you to Lakeside Lab for your wonderful hospitality!

The 4th graders worked together today to do some service learning in our Nature Learning Center! They picked up sticks and weeded the “river bed” today. Thank you, Mavericks!

A HUGE shoutout to our amazing local telephone company, Premier Communications! Connie and Barb insisted on getting the kiddos (and staff) refreshments and snacks during their hard day of work picking up sticks and weeding local lawns. How wonderful is that?! THANK YOU, Connie, Barb and Premier Communications for always supporting our Mavericks! We are grateful for you!

Today was the 5th graders turn for a Service Learning Day excursion! They headed to Everly and Royal to community member’s homes along with local city parks to help with weeds, rocks, sticks and did the hauling too! This fantastic group of kiddos worked hard all day to assist others in the area and we are so proud of them! They are fantastic Maverick leaders! We love our community outreach projects and love our CCE communities so much!

Tomorrow is Outdoor Day at Lakeside Lab. Please dress in layers. Long pants are recommended. Wear closed toe shoes. Send a water bottle with your child. The water fountains are not working. Apply sunscreen and/or bug spray before your child leaves for school. Sunscreen and bug spray are available throughout the day. Check your child for ticks when they return home.

Much goes on behind the scenes at public schools - we have many different sponsorships, fundraiser committees, special donors and volunteers that pull together to provide the best support that we could ever dream for our little school and our amazing Mavericks. One of those groups that goes above and beyond in their volunteer efforts is our CCE Pop-Can Committee! This group of volunteers is composed of former Mavericks, community members and current or former staff that come together to sort donated cans from our communities and get them to the redemption center for the sake of our school and students. Between the amazing volunteers that do the “dirty work” of hauling and sorting to the behind the scenes helpers such as Toft Electric that donates the use of their van for can hauling…they do so with gracious hearts! We also can’t forget those who donate their cans for this to occur! 🤩 We are so grateful for ALL of the efforts to assist our Mavericks throughout the year. Pop-can funds go towards anything student related, whether it be field trips or incentives, snacks, snack milk programs or RIF books, yearbooks or Maverick Homecoming fun for the students, too. It is ALL wonderful and not taken for granted! THANK YOU, CCE Pop-Can Committee for all that you do and for your selfless hearts! We are so grateful for YOU!
