Here are a few more photos from our trip to Lakeside Lab in Milford today. Thanks again to the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club for their help with the fishing station and the terrific donation of a fishing pole and reel for each student! ❤️

Wow! What a day we had at Lakeside Lab!!! ✨ Our K-6 graders explored the 147-acre biological field station on both land and water. Thanks to Naturalist, Miss Ashley, and the Lab's interns, our students learned about animal habitats, macro invertebrates, and more. Nature hikes, canoeing, dip netting, and fishing were a few of the activities planned for us. 🛶 As an added bonus, the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club generously donated a rod and reel set to every Maverick who visited today. Look for this to come home with your child before the end of week! Thanks to Lakeside and IGL Fishing Club for an amazing and memorable day!!! ❤️💛

On May 7th, 2nd grade took a trip to the Dickinson County Nature Center. With the help of Mrs. Roti they learned about the native plants pollinators love, pollinators themselves and were able to play and explore. What a fun day!

Sharing their discoveries! A number of 5th and 6th grade Mavs had the opportunity to share their fossil finds with peers during a science lesson on Wednesday. ✨ Our paleontologists-in-training explained the types of Devonian fossils they collected during a recent trip to the Rockford Fossil and Prairie Park. All students had the chance to examine and identify these 350 million year old examples of sea life. 🐚This week's discussion wrapped up our investigations into Iowa's fossil record and plate tectonics. Thanks to those students who stepped up to teach others. 💫

Preschool and Kindergarten teamed up and took on the Launch Pad in Sioux City. It was a day full of fun and exploration. Thank you to our wonderful district for allowing this great learning of STEM, dramatic play, water play, and music and movement! ❤️💛

Preschool took a trip to celebrate and sing to Royal's own Shirley. She is 91. 🎉

Paleontologists in training!!!🦕 A number of our 5th and 6th graders opted to travel to Rockford Fossil and Prairie Park this past Saturday. We spent the day digging into Iowa's Fossil Record and collected some excellent examples of sea life from 350 million years ago.✨ The day was gorgeous and our Mavericks hiked, climbed, and explored the preserve with gusto. We returned to CCE muddy, tired, but content. The dig was a success; our students gathered evidence of ancient animals while building lasting memories. ❤️💛

Better late than never! We wanted to finally share some photos from our 5th grade field trip to the Iowa Great Lakes on April 24. The first stop was at the Pearson Lakes art Center (PLAC) where Miss Holly guided our talented students through a chalk pastel art lesson. ✨ Once they completed their beautiful drawings, students were treated to a tour of the many galleries and studios through the facility. 🖼️ After lunch, our group headed to the Dickinson County Nature Center. There we were able to see many of the exhibits and briefly enjoy the gorgeous outdoors before heading back to school. 🐝 Thanks to Holly at PLAC and the DC Nature Center for always being such wonderful hosts to our Mavericks!!! ❤️💛

This morning grade 3-5 were invited to tour the Parker museum home, and the heritage museum in Spencer. They learned about what life in our area was like back in the early 1900s. They were also spoiled by our amazing bus driver Mr. Dave with some ice cream!

Friday May 1st the 3rd and 4th graders were able to go and explore the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls. They had a blast exploring the different areas of the zoo, especially the farm where they were able to feed the goats! A few students and Ms. Hartwig got bracelets to track animals around the world and continue learning more about them.
