Sending a big Shout Out to all of our student leaders and staff who stepped up at CC-E's Family Fun Night yesterday in Everly. The event could not have happened without the leadership of our Mavericks who practiced Leader in Me's Habit 6 (Synergize). Together we are better!!!

Josh Toft of Toft Electric recently came by to finish up some work in our newly improved Nature Learning Center. Our preschoolers were eager to dig in and assist Mr. Toft with whatever he needed, even taking his shovel back to the truck. Look at these awesome Maverick Leaders! Rarely is there cuter, sweeter, or more eager help than that of a Maverick!

The Mavericks had a special visitor today, Royal Fire Chief Matt Goyette! Chief Goyette discussed all things fire safety with our students. He encouraged all to have a fire escape plan for their homes, to check and maintain all smoke alarms and make sure there is one in each room, and of course to never play with fire. The students were able to check out the Royal Fire Department fire truck as well. CCE would like to thank our local Royal and Everly Fire Departments for keeping our local communities and Mavericks safe! You are our heroes!

Clay Central Everly 5th and 6th graders enjoyed a field trip last Monday to Scharnberg and Oneota Parks with Clay County Naturalist Bri Blom. The two grades enjoyed testing out their archery skills, team building and fishing. The children all had a wonderful and fun time on their fall field trip day!

We would like to extend the sincerest "THANK YOU!" to our friends at Farm Bureau and Spencer Hospital for making our Beyond the Bell Farm Safety Presentation a wonderful success! With hands-on learning, captivating visuals, and relatable stories our students AND staff learned SO much about farm and agriculture safety. Key takeaways that we would like to share: 1. PTO (power take-off) shafts are DANGEROUS, no matter what your age or familiarity with them. STAY AWAY and NEVER walk over/near them! 2. Only sit in a tractor with a cab and extra seat. Cab-less tractors, fender rides, and sitting on laps are NOT safe. 3. NEVER assume that a tractor driver, truck driver, combine driver, or ANY driver can see you! Most likely they can't and you could easily be run over. STAY safe and STAY clear of any farm vehicles. 4. SAFETY comes before FUN. It may seem fun to drive a UTV or ATV under the age of 16, but it is NOT legal and you could easily be severely injured. YOU are PRECIOUS cargo and mean a lot to so many. 5. THINK before you DO. Think about what could happen or will happen to you or others before you do anything. 6. Corn and bean-filled wagons and grain bins are NOT for jumping or climbing into. It takes only 11 seconds to be completely engulfed in corn or beans and only 3-5 minutes to completely suffocate. The average time it takes to save someone from grain engulfment is 3.5 hours. STAY SAFE: Adults- DO NOT ever go into these bins/wagons alone. Children- NEVER go into these bins/wagons, until you are an adult and have another adult with you. CCE wishes all a safe Harvest season!
